What to do if…
someone demands live video or explicit content and refuses to accept “no”

Short answer

Stop engaging and do not send anything. Save the essentials, then report and block them, and get support.

Do not do these things

  • Don’t send more images, videos, or “proof” to make them stop (it usually escalates).
  • Don’t agree to a “quick call” to calm them down or “end it” (that’s often when recording happens).
  • Don’t pay money, gift cards, crypto, or fees to “helpers” who promise to delete things.
  • Don’t negotiate or argue point-by-point once you’ve said “no”.
  • Don’t delete everything in panic if you might want support or to report later (save first, then you can tidy up).
  • If anyone involved might be under 18, don’t download, forward, or store sexual images/screenshots of the images.

What to do now

  1. Create a safe pause. Put your phone down for 60 seconds, breathe, and move somewhere you feel steadier (different room, near a trusted person, or a public area if you’re out). If you’re in immediate danger, call 999.
  2. End the live channel immediately. Leave the call/chat. Don’t switch platforms “just to talk.” If needed, turn off camera/mic permissions for that app on your phone.
  3. Save the essentials (2–3 minutes max). Screenshot the threats, usernames/handles, phone numbers, and any payment demands. Note the date/time and platform. Copy any profile link/URL into a note.
  4. Report, then block. Use the platform’s report tools for harassment/blackmail/intimate-image threats. Then block. If you feel panicky about blocking straight away, you can mute/restrict first, report, and block once you’re with support.
  5. Get specialist support (you don’t have to handle this alone).
    • If you’re 18+, contact the Revenge Porn Helpline (UK support for adults affected by intimate image abuse, including threats and coercion).
    • If anything sexual has happened without your consent (or you’re not sure), contact Rape Crisis support in your nation/area for confidential help.
  6. If you’re under 18 (or the person targeted is): tell a safe adult now. You can also report concerns about grooming/sexual abuse to CEOP. If a sexual image/video of a child is involved, use Childline’s Report Remove route rather than keeping copies yourself.
  7. If you want to report to police: if there’s immediate risk call 999; otherwise contact 101 (or your local force’s online reporting).

What can wait

  • You do not need to decide right now whether to report to police.
  • You do not need to write a perfect statement or gather “all” evidence tonight.
  • You do not need to contact them again to “make them understand”.
  • You can do a quick security sweep once the immediate pressure is stopped: change passwords (email first), turn on two-step verification, review account recovery options, and check cloud photo backups/app permissions.

Important reassurance

Someone ignoring your “no” and pressuring you for sexual content is coercion. Feeling shaken, frozen, embarrassed, or panicky is a normal response—what matters is stopping engagement and bringing support in.

Scope note

These are first steps to stabilise and reduce harm. If threats continue, if images are shared, or if you feel unsafe, specialist services and police can help with next steps.

Important note

This is general information, not legal advice. If you’re in immediate danger call 999. If you feel unable to stay safe or you’re overwhelmed, reaching out to specialist support is an appropriate next step.
