What to do if…
an online contact pushes sexual conversation quickly and pressures you to move platforms

Short answer

Stop engaging and don’t move platforms. Save a few key screenshots, then block and report them on the app you’re using now.

Do not do these things

  • Don’t switch to another app because they insist it’s “safer,” “more private,” or “just easier.”
  • Don’t send sexual images/videos or do anything on camera to reduce pressure.
  • Don’t share identifying info (full name, school/work, address, phone number, other accounts).
  • Don’t pay money or send gift cards/crypto if they threaten you.
  • Don’t keep negotiating once you feel pressured or unsafe.
  • Don’t delete messages until you’ve saved what you need to report.

What to do now

  1. Create a clean pause. Stop replying, mute the chat, and turn off read receipts/online status if possible.
  2. Save minimal proof. Screenshot the profile, username/handle, and the messages showing pressure, coercion, threats, or requests to move platforms. Write down the date/time and the platform.
  3. Block them on the current platform. Block the account and any related accounts they shared.
  4. Report inside the app. Use the platform’s report flow for harassment/sexual solicitation/threats/blackmail. Add screenshots if allowed.
  5. Reduce how findable you are today.
    • Make your socials private.
    • Remove phone/email from public profile fields.
    • Turn off location sharing and contact syncing/discovery features.
    • Review recent followers/friends and remove unknowns.
  6. If they’re threatening you with images, videos, or “screenshots” (sextortion):
    • Do not pay. Save the threat messages.
    • Report to law enforcement: call 911 if you feel in immediate danger; otherwise contact your local police non-emergency line.
    • Report federally: file with the FBI’s Internet Crime Complaint Center (IC3), and/or submit a tip at tips.fbi.gov (you can also call 1-800-CALL-FBI).
  7. If anyone involved might be under 18: report to NCMEC’s CyberTipline (online enticement and sextortion involving minors can be reported there).
  8. Get confidential support now. If you’re shaken or unsure what “counts,” you can contact RAINN’s National Sexual Assault Hotline for support and options without pressure.

If you may want to report later, keep your screenshots and key details somewhere safe, but don’t keep re-reading them.

What can wait

  • You don’t need to figure out their real identity right now.
  • You don’t need to gather extensive evidence—just enough to report and protect yourself.
  • You don’t need to decide today whether to tell others publicly or confront them.
  • You don’t need to respond to threats or “final warnings.”

Important reassurance

This kind of fast sexual pressure and “move platforms” pushing is a common manipulation pattern. Feeling shocked, embarrassed, or frozen doesn’t mean you did anything wrong—it means your brain is reacting to a threat. The safest move is to stop contact, preserve a little proof, and use reporting/support channels.

Scope note

This is first-step guidance to stabilise and reduce harm. If threats continue, images are involved, or you feel unsafe, escalation to platform safety teams, specialist support, and law enforcement may be appropriate.

Important note

This guide is general information for immediate safety and support. It isn’t legal advice or a substitute for professional services. If you are in immediate danger, call 911.
